Lucrative prizes on offer in unique pro-am venture

PGA Midlands and PGA South West have joined forces to stage a pro-am that potentially offers the biggest prize fund up for grabs in either region this year, writes Adrian Milledge.

The event – The PGA Midlands and South West Pro-Am – will be contested on October 15th and 16th at a venue in each region.

The first day will be at Tewkesbury Park, Gloucestershire, and day two across the county border at The Vale Golf and Country Club, Worcestershire.

The tournament’s format will be an individual Stableford for PGA pros and the two best net Stableford scores on each hole to count towards the team prize. There will be an 8am and 1:15pm shotgun start on both days. Teams who are early one day will be late the next.

The £12,000 prize fund on offer, with £2,100 going to the winner, is dependent on the tournament being fully subscribed.

To that end, organisers are looking for 25 teams of four – a PGA Professional and three amateurs – from each region to compete in the event.

The cost of entry is £550 per team and, in addition to the 36-hole tournament and complimentary practice round at each course, includes: tea, coffee and bacon rolls on arrival each day, a gala dinner at Tewkesbury Park on day one, two-course buffet meal at The Vale on day two, and premium branded team and hole prizes. In addition, preferential rates on bed and breakfast are available at both venues.

Commenting on what is a first for ether region, PGA Midlands regional manager James Brown, said: “Joining forces with our colleagues in the South West enables us to put together an event that has a number of benefits.

“As well as offering attractive prizes it’s a chance for pros to play at two excellent venues, to socialise with their amateur team-mates and for members from each region to meet up socially and catch up with old friends.”
