The third major gets underway this week as the world’s top players prepare for the US Open and the world-famous Pebble Beach course. We asked a group of PGA Professionals who they think will lift the trophy on Sunday evening…
Alex Mollin – Jersey Golf Coaching
My prediction is that Dustin Johnson will win the US Open. The attention may be on Brooks Koepka going for the hat-trick but with Dustin’s history at Pebble Beach and his ability to overpower any golf course, if he is able to find the fairways and finds some form on the greens, I believe that he will win this weekend.
Phillip Akers – The Belfry
Tiger Woods to win. He’s so good with his irons and the greens are tiny. Dustin Johnson for an each way bet. He doesn’t need to play well to come finish in the top five. Matt Wallace is also a gritty competitor and isn’t afraid when he gets a sniff of winning.,
David Edwards – former European Tour player
Xander Schauffele is my tip for this year’s US Open, currently World Number 10 with two wins in 2019, runner-up at The Masters this year and second in last year’s Open Championship. Certainly worth a flutter as the lads knocking on the door!!
Gareth Shaw – Three Hammers Golf Club
My heart says Tiger Woods, my head says Rory Mcilroy and the outsiders are Phil Mickleson and Graeme McDowell.
Cameron Clark – Moor Hall Golf Club
A bit of an outsider but going for Jordan Speith. He is just coming back in to form and has a good record at Pebble Beach.
Denis Pugh – Elite coach
Francesco Molinari. Enough said! Always prepared.
Heather MaCrae – Stirling Golf Club
There are so many of the top guys playing so well just now so I’d expect the winner to come from Brooks Koepka, Tiger Woods, Rory McIIroy or Dustin Johnson. While I would love Tiger Woods to do it, I think I’d put my money on Koepka, he’s on a roll, not scared to win majors nor is he intimidated by any of the others.
