PGA Midlands Members aged 50 or over will have more opportunities to play competitively this year following the addition of five events to the tournament programme for seniors and an Order of Merit.
The Order of Merit will be determined by performances in a series of five monthly 18-hole tournaments that begins at Hawkstone Park, Shropshire, on April 2.
The second event will follow at Coventry Golf Club on May 20 and the June tournament will be staged at Harborne Golf Club, Birmingham, on the 25th.
Stoke Rochford Golf Club near Grantham, Lincolnshire, will be the stage for the fourth event on July 28 before the series reaches its climax at Walsall Golf Club, West Midlands, on August 17.
Commenting on the introduction of tournaments to be contested by the region’s pros aged 50 or over, the regional manager James Brown said: “One of the beauties of golf is that it can be played competitively by all ages.
“There are some very accomplished senior golfers in the region such as Paul Streeter and Darren Prosser (pictured).
“Paul has won on the Staysure Tour and Darren was runner up in last year’s Senior PGA Professional Championship.
“A series of tournaments for our senior pros will enable them to showcase their skills in a competitive situation.
“The five tournament Order of Merit One is also in line with PGA chief executive Robert Maxfield’s wish to create more playing opportunities for Members.”
