Once again amateurs and Professionals alike will be able to compete in a plethora of events throughout the season in the PGA North.
Kicking off the season will once again be the Overseas Pro-Ams of the North, two of the most anticipated events in the winter 2020 looks to be no different with over 59 teams competing over some of Portugal’s finest courses.
Closer to home, PGA Professionals will compete in all four counties of the North in a continued attempt to bring all members closer together.
“As Regional staff we have been working hard to make sure our events spread the length and breadth of the Region” remarked Jonathan Paine, Regional Manager to the PGA North. “Our mantra last year was to begin to change our outlook on events and create a Regional calendar that not only visited the best of what the North had to offer for our members but also for their amateur partners, in our second year of change I think we are seeing the shoots of development throughout.”
The Order of merit campaign will once again begin at the fabulous Manchester Open with the Regional Championship continuing at it’s new home of Pleasington. The historic Leeds Cup will once again be played over its original links of Leeds Golf Club and in a change of location the season ending Lancashire Open will change its home in 2020 to the fabulous Bolton Old Links in September.
On the Pro-Am front the Region welcomes back old favourites to the calendar with the season opening Pro-Am at Furness Old Links starting proceedings in May. The annual two day Pro-Am to Royal St David’s Pro-Am returns in May and is joined on the calendar by three new 36-hole events, The Yanks Pro-Am, The Close House Pro-Am & The Castletown Golf Links Pro-Am.
“Its fantastic to see new events on the calendar, the PGA Regional Tournament staff have worked tirelessly to make sure these events have come to fruition for our members. Our thanks must also go to all the PGA Professionals and organisers who have also worked hard to find suitable dates in already busy calendars.”
Jonathan Paine stated “To be able to go to some of the finest courses in the North is fantastic and what we have been working hard to achieve in the Region. The hope is that as we create a calendar more PGA Professionals want to become a part of and in return, we see more amateur golfers participating in such events of which we can then gain feedback and continue to evolve year on year”
