Jason Levermore (Little Channels Golf centre) is aiming for a three-peat when he returns to Portugal for the East Region’s traditional curtain-raiser – the Overseas Pro-Am.
The Essex ace first won the tournament in Lisbon where it was staged two years ago. In 2019 he was once again successful, this time in Vilamoura.
And he is looking forward to starting the 2020 season with a return visit to the Algarve for this year’s tournament, which takes place from March 27-29.
Levermore said: “It’s so close-knit and friendly – everyone that goes gets on great. It’s competitive golf but in a nice relaxed environment. We have a lot of banter on the golf course. The other pros that go are all good fun.
“It’s a nice week to start the year off and get everyone going – out in the sunshine, a bit of warm weather. And it’s a lovely resort – nice courses.”
For Levermore the away-break will give him a chance to really get back in the swing after a two-month injury-enforced break. An MRI scan late in 2019 revealed a stress fracture in his left foot and subsequently he had six weeks on crutches, while wearing a medical moon boot for even longer.
Levermore said: “Touch wood, it should all be alright. All the swelling has gone down and it’s not painful. Hopefully, I’ll hit a few shots at the beginning of February and it should be fine.”
The six-time regional Order of Merit winner (including in 2019) will be joined at the seventh renewal of the Overseas Pro-Am by 11 other PGA professionals and their respective teams.
The East’s regional manager Gordon Campbell said: “It didn’t take long for this year’s pro-am to be fully subscribed, which was great. It’s also pleasing that we have a strong field. We’re looking forward to our stay in Vilamoura and I’m sure all the professionals and amateurs are too.”
