Robert Daw’s career in golf has just moved up a gear with his appointment as Royal Ascot Golf Club’s new PGA Head Professional, writes Charles DeHaan.
Former assistant pro Daw is relishing the prospect of his new role, and a major part of that will be helping the club increase its membership.
He said: “The focus will be on the Academy, building up the club’s junior section via schools outreach, and encouraging family participation and female membership as well.”
Since turning professional, Daw has won seven professional events, including the Foremost National Assistants Championship earlier in 2019.
He continued: “I’ll be playing in PGA South events when I can, and offering opportunities for Royal Ascot members to join me in pro-ams, away days and coaching trips throughout the year.”
As the newly appointed head professional, Daw is well aware he faces all sorts of expectations and demands. He added: “There’s a lot more challenges on your plate! In terms of the pro shop, a top priority is ensuring a warm welcome to all while providing a wide range of services and brands at competitive prices.
“Custom fitting and game improvement will be key to building the retail side of my business at the club, but over the next few months I want to get to know as many of the members here as I can, because that’s all part of making Royal Ascot a golf club where the people who support it feel genuinely valued and appreciated.”
