Simon Edwards has joined forces with Preston Golf Club to expand his already successful business as R&A rules official and referee.
“He’s built a strong reputation with his coaching and he needed a base to teach. We have all the facilities for him to operate with,” explained Andrew Greenbank, the club professional for 22 years.
“He’s a great addition to our team which includes myself and Oliver Hart and five handicapper Sean Patchell is aiming to turn pro.”
Preston is proud of its 16-bay driving range which has stood the test of time for 17 years and provides an area used as a teaching room.
“We have also introduced a double simulator suite, which caters for custom fitting, on land once used as a putting green,” explained Greenbank.
“The trend within golf has had a negative impact in recent years but with the facilities we have here, along with the course, probably gives us an edge on other regional venues.
“There are quite a few clubs in the Preston area and, like others, we are actively working on junior development programmes to try to encourage more into the game.
“Oliver heads that up and is working strongly with schools and reaches out into the communities. We already operate Get into Golf with the ladies and we are pro-active in trying to get new blood into the game. All clubs need a strong team of folk to be able to deliver the A,B,C & D.
