Coates lands top role at Royal Winchester

With big plans for the future, Elliot Coates has been appointed to become the new PGA Head Professional at Royal Winchester Golf Club.

As he explains: “After working here for six years, first as a PGA Assistant and then as the Head PGA Assistant, this is a fantastic opportunity for me. I love coaching, but in my new role I’m really looking forward to developing the club’s Pro Shop offering into one of the best in the region.”

Royal Winchester’s chairman Phil Alder said: “With an excellent presentation, Elliot successfully demonstrated his suitability for the role. All those involved with the recruitment process were impressed with Elliot. We now look forward to seeing him flourish and wish him every success in this prestigious position.”

Coates adds: “The support and guidance I had in preparing my business plan presentation from The PGA’s Business Relationship Officer, Fiona Champness, was excellent, as was the moral support from the membership at Royal Winchester, and I can’t thank them enough.

Club manager Stuart Dubber commented: “I’m very excited about working closely with Elliot, as we both share the vision of Royal Winchester becoming one of the premier golf clubs in the region. I see our new PGA Professional, shop and performance studio as key factors in delivering that objective.”

Starting in April, Coates’ first major task is to get the newly refurbished Pro Shop up and running. In an innovative move by the club, Elliot will be partnered by PGA Professional Steve Pockneall who as a former Pro Shop of the Year winner, will help Elliot to deliver a first class retail, custom fitting and coaching service.

While the emphasis will be on customer service and satisfaction, Elliot and his team will utilise the backup of Pocknealls’ Evolution Golf to offer a wide range major brands at highly competitive prices.

The plans for the club’s Pro Shop also include a state of the art indoor performance studio. This will not only become a regional custom fitting centre for most of the leading brands but will also offer indoor coaching and simulation hire for members and guests, ensuring Royal Winchester stays ahead of the competition and gives modern golfers what they want from a modern facility.
